Dysport ® and BOTOX® Cosmetic

Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, clinician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Clinicians often use Botox Cosmetic to treat other areas of the face that are considered “off label.” These areas include horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, chin crease, and lines on the neck. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within a week, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.

BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Juvéderm™

Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your healthcare professional eases Juvéderm™ under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis, the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis, to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm™ injectable gel is used most effectively for those wrinkles and folds in the lower third of your face, like your “laugh lines,” “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds), or “marionette lines” (oral commissures).

Because Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment to stop by your healthcare professional’s office for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice, and get right back to your life.

You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last up to 6 months or more. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

Juvéderm Voluma™ XC

One of the earliest signs of aging is the loss of volume in the mid face.  Most of the time when patients come to me complaining about changes they are noticing in their lower face (i.e. jowls, sagging jawline, heavy nasolabial folds “parenthesis”) the problem is actually occurring higher up on their face.  We have fat pads in our faces which provide structural support to the overlying tissues.  When those fat pads begin to shrink (atrophy) the skin loses some of its structural support from beneath and gravity takes its toll.  We see this as aging in the lower face.

Voluma is the newest nonsurgical modality available to treat and correct mid-facial volume loss.  Manufactured by Allergan, Voluma is an injectable made of hyaluronic acid, the same component of Juvederm.  However, changes in the molecular structure allow Voluma to provide more volume with less product and give results lasting up to 2 years!

Voluma, like other injectable fillers, acts like a temporary implant that is injected into the area where volume replacement is needed.  As with any injectable, the risks include swelling, bruising, redness and discomfort.  Voluma is primarily used in the cheek area and is not recommended for use in the lips.

RESTYLANE ®

RESTYLANE is a safe product, made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body. RESTYLANE was the first CE-approved, non-animal, stabilized, injectable hyaluronic acid for aesthetic use. As it is free from animal substances, the risk of transmitting diseases from other species is completely eliminated.
